A Case for Pseudonyms

After reading the article about pseudonyms and anonymity, many thoughts have been raised about how we should use pseudonyms on the internet and in real life.

There is a fine line between people using their anonymity in a positive and negative manner.  Many people these days go on the internet, using pseudonyms that allow them to be anonymous, so that they can "cyber-bully" others.  This activity is seen so much on so many different blogging type websites.

This is not the case for all internet users.  Many people choose names that keep their identity a secret for privacy reasons.  This could be because we are not always aware of who is looking at what we write on the internet.  Keeping things private can make respectable internet users feel more comfortable sharing their views.

I think that it is fair to convince internet users on Facebook and other blogging-type platforms to use their reals names.  It adds credibility to the things that are being written as well as a higher standard of civility.  In the end, it is up to the users to decide if these platforms are for them if they do or do not have a higher standard of privacy policies.

  1. I agree with you in the fact that using real names can limit online foul. But with this being said, I don't see it ever being possible to completely force people into their real names. There are always ways to get around it so I feel like it is almost a lost cause to try to force people into it.
