The feeling of invincibility comes from hiding behind a
pseudonym. People having the option of
creating a new persona when on the internet, which is a very controversial topic
mainly because of safety while online in this cyber world. When someone creates
a pseudonym, a false identity, it’s because they don’t want their real identity
to be broadcasted where everyone can see. Are they just safe or are they hiding
something?
In some cases people use pseudonym as a negative thing that
they can hid behind to bully others on the internet. In the recent years this
has escalated to new heights never seen before, making the world really question
if pseudonyms are a good idea. The
picture that I added is what people feel like on the internet. “Courageous lion”
can speak its mind and insult people whereas that same person in real life is
more like a “timid kitten” that would not say anything bad when come face to
face with the same people.
This duelling personality problem can also be a positive
thing as it is freedom of expression and speech rights. People feel more
comfortable expressing their true feeling and ideas. Either way safety on the
internet needs to be the number one priority.
The pseudonym an individual choose will indirectly have an influence
on what other people view them as, also known as their ethos. Whatever the person chooses is going to give
people an impression of them before they even read what you have to say. This
is a very big part of someone’s user name because we never want to give a wrong
impression of ourselves. The choice is yours! However you want to be perceived is
your personal decision. With that being
said while online ones actions should be held accountable if participating in
anything dangerous or morally wrong.
I agree with what you said about people feeling invincible when they post online with a pseudonym. They don't have to worry about people judging what they say based on who they are or being able to personal attack them for what they say. I think some people post more useful comments or posts when they have a fake name.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the statement on people who act like nothing can touch them behind a pseudonym. they feel as if that they are entitled to doing what they want on the internet because no one will recognize them.
