Online is no substitute for offline
Does
socially media fosters a better society or is harming it? While doing my
research I found and interesting article called " The 3 Reasons Why You Should Quit Social Media in 2013", in
this article it is stated by Henderson (2012) that "over 90% of job hunters of all ages look
for work online, but less than 5% are conducting offline job hunting activities
such as attending networking events or setting up information interviews. And
guess what? A full 70 – 80% of job vacancies are never posted"
(para.3). Today a lot of people spend excessive amounts of time utilizing
technology, either browsing the internet or creating and updating their social
media sites. Due to the dependency in technology people are becoming more
isolated, thus struggling to communicate face to face. Now a day more people
join sites such as LinkedIn in the hope of building a strong network; they live
with the illusion that social media can lead to new contacts and job
opportunities. In fact social media those help communicate with a lot of people
around the globe and it can lead to new contacts and opportunities, however, as
shown above there are other ways that create better results, like: attending
networking events, setting up informative interviews. These two options allows
us to interact with people face to face, increase our network and decrease
misunderstandings that are likely to occur when using technology. Online
communication will never be a substitute for in person.
