YouTube

YouTube is a brilliant phenomena that has provided another way for society to interact. The ability to post videos and appeal to a certain crowd has allowed individual talents that would otherwise be unnoticed become world wide sensations. YouTube has also allowed individuals to share touching stories of their trials and triumphs. These motivational videos create inspiration and help others who face similar problems. Having the opportunity to go back and watch previous news, music videos and shows is a beneficial tool that has supplied a huge amount of information that is now easily accessible. As with everything, there is always negative and positive outcomes associated with multimedia.

When reading the article I found that Daniel Margolis made some compelling points. I was unaware that there was such negative hype affiliated with YouTube. Of course I knew of some negative clips shared, but was naive to assume that those were few and far in between. The most shocking thing Margolis wrote about was the high profile news stories on divorces that were shared on YouTube. I found that simply shocking. It is sad to see that such high profile figures stoop so low as to incriminate and bash each other this way. I think that this shows a lack of maturity and reiterates the stupidity that some people possess. I believe that YouTube is not negatively affected by the absurdity of other posters, rather it reflects that there are actually individuals out in the world who lack compassion and are ignorant towards others. It is embarrassing that anyone, whether famous or not, would articulate their negative feelings on YouTube. YouTube is a hot spot for posting, it is truly up to the individual posting the video if they want to embarrass themselves becoming viral due to a lack of a filter or maturity. The over indulgent individuals using YouTube to gain negative hype are individuals better left to be ignored.

YouTube, like any tool, must be used wisely. The easy accessibility means that posters must be aware of what they post. With the internet being a bottomless pit, capturing everything and anything posted, its important to take note of what is shared. My thoughts similarly reflect Margolis's thoughts on the inability to take back unflattering videos posted exemplifying the harsh words spoken. With the technology being so advanced, individuals especially high profile people must be always aware of what they say and what they are doing. There is not take backs when it comes to YouTube. The video posted can always be found.

Overall YouTube is an instrumental engine, reaching society globally. This is an innovative accomplishment, allowing cultures to be shared. I believe that YouTube, when used for the betterment of others is an unmeasurable tool.

  1. Hey there, this is a great post and I agree with a lot of the points you mentioned in particular the negative ways YouTube can be used with videos ridiculing other people. I have to admit that I too was somewhat naive to the tainted reputation YouTube has for some people. I forgot about the videos of dog fights, gang beatings and advert bullying. I really just use YouTube for music I haven't downloaded so I really was living in the happy go lucky YouTube is so great kinda world that I think a lot of complacent YouTube users dwell in. I also like your comment about how "like any tool YouTube must be used wisely." It seems like any form of social media can be used in a negative way and it really comes down to the integrity and morality of the users and awareness that just because negative material isn't in front of them on their screens doesn't mean that it doesn't exist within the site and should be ignored.
