YOUTUBE

I have never posted a video on YouTube, however, I have watched many videos on the site. I find the site extremely useful as well as entertaining. I know I have personally logged on multiple times to figure out how to fix my oven or fix the ceiling fan. I was quick and easy and I didn’t have to pay to get the information. However I also use the site on Wednesdays to watch Jenna Marbles videos.

We currently live in a world that is fascinated with technology. Quoted by the article we are living in the “YouTube era.” Andrew Perrin said “ Even though it’s an unavoidable force, the truth is we don’t yet know what kind of unavoidable force it is.” This is a very true statement we don’t exactly know the effects that YouTube or other forms of social media will have. The purpose of YouTube is to post videos and get hits. The more this the more popular the video the more popular the person will become in society. For example some girls post videos of them fighting another girl this may get enough hits to get the video on the news. If the video makes it to the news that means people are talking about them.

However YouTube can pose a problem for people who act upon impulse. In the article it talked about  Ms. Walsh-Smith posting videos describing her ex-husbands and her sex life. I believe she did this to win the devoice trial. She may have been bitter about the divorce and wanted to get revenge on her husband at the time. However a week later she may feel regret for exposing such personal details about their lives together.
Lastly the article talked amount politicians. Jones stated “One of the possible long-term effects is that it’s going to cause politicians to even more greatly circumscribe their speech.” This can pose as a problem because the voters may not get a clear idea what the politician stands for because they are afraid to say the wrong thing. With the advancements of YouTube information will spread like wild fire.

  1. The article was definitely right in saying that we don't yet fully know the effects of YouTube and other social media. The growth in popularity of sites such as YouTube has been unbelievably fast. We don't know how viral things may become or how powerful they could be. Even the Gangnam Style music video reaching 1 billion was something I think many people thought could never happen.
