Technology Vs. University

Change is inevitable in the world in which we live.  No matter what people believe or say anything and everything is subject to change at some point. People’s ability to read and write is no exception. Currently most of people’s social communication is done via text or over the computer.  This way of communicating hasn’t even been around for 30 years and it has taken over. This is one of the changes that some people have chosen to resist. Yet, it has very much benefit society today. It has now become a necessity to read and write as this is the way that the majority of society communicates. As Lunsford pointed years ago people were illiterate although people are currently using abbreviations they are still able to express themselves. This to me is something positive whether they can communicate to a university level is irrelevant. In current time many people are seeing these forms of communicating as a negative thing for universities. However I have yet to see and of my fellow students incorporate emoticons or text words into their papers. At this point in my life I don’t see this ever being an issue because universities are held on a pedestal for scholarly work and currently scholarly work does not include and text words. Now this is not to say that it never will but if it does that will be just another adaptation of society. I don’t think it would be detrimental to see a “J” at the end of a paper. I don’t think that it changes the creditability of the person or the paper they publish. With all this being said I do appreciate when people can publish professional paper. I think they are important to society for insuring that most of the information given to the general public is creditable.
