Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle

As stated by Jillian C. York, people have always used pseudonyms (different names) in order to keep their identity a secret. This is because I believe the name/ identity of a person is the key to knowing everything about them. Identity is everything about the person (beliefs/values, favourites, friends etc..) all condensed into a concentrated form for everyone to see. Everyone is different about presenting themselves out into the world where they can be judged, harassed, humiliated. That is why so many people have used them and why the Internet has multiplied the use of them.

The Internet as we have learned from lectures in junior high or from personal experience is really not a safe place. People on the Internet can be whoever they want to be while others thrive from making a person feel uncomfortable we call "trolls". Then there are those who use the Internet for criminal purposes like Sexual harassment, stalking, cyber bulling, theft and even murder. These are just the few criminal uses of the Internet that EVERYONE in the world potentially has access to. So why shouldn't a person be able to use a different user name in order to protect themselves or their loved ones and keep them out of harms way. Others may argue that the government should be able to know what you are doing online and should be able to track you by your user name, but in fact this is very wrong. The government has no right to "stalk" a person unjustly without a reason and in some cases a warrant is needed as well. Think of it this way, would you give anyone off the street your name? Now would you give another person your name without even seeing them or knowing what they look like? Who they are? The person off the street you might because you have seen their face. You might know the reason they need it etc... but the person on the Internet is hiding behind the deathly hallow cloak of invisibility which is in this case the screen of their computer. They can be your next door neighbour to a rapist, drug dealing gang leader in Africa who is looking to make you a child soldier.

Another way to look at the subject is that others abuse the freedom to change their user name without providing their real one. Many kids do this to earn free credits to games online or even access adult content. Some others may even go online to put you life in danger. These are risks online everyone should know about. People have the right to privacy and the police can eventually track a person using their I.P. address. Therefore no one else should have the right to know who you are unless you want them too.
