Is YouTube a Social Networking Site?

Is YouTube A Social Networking Site?

I've been on YouTube for a few years now and wouldn't be without it. It seems to be YouTube is getting more like a video based social networking site where people are encouraged to; comment link, up with other social networking sites, give the thumbs up or down to videos.  And make videos in response to partner videos and make videos where they answer inanane questions and talk about themselves.

YouTube used to produce and promote talent - now its all about what will bring in the most money and get the most responses. And that means promoting anything thats likely to make money. It then it becomes about whose better looking and who can bring in the money and be the most outrageous or obxnosious to get the tweens responding. Even the video stills on these videos are made to look like cartoons with violent sexual or drug related comedy captions to attract attention.

I am a big fan of Stevie Riks on this site it seems he is one of the few entertainers on YouTube who hasn't become a partner. However, it's not YouTube's commercial interest to promote the likes of him because commercial interests are more important than talent. I can see a time when the Entertainment is provided by the corperations and partners - and the majority of YouTubers are here to either watch or comment or post videos about themselves.

There is much debate if YouTube is a social network site and if it isn't. In my opinion, I believe YouTube to be a networking site because it has many of the qualities of any other social site such as Facebook or Twitter.

  1. Yea I definitely agree with your one point, YouTube use to promote talented people and also many useful do it yourself videos. And even those still exist today YouTube has been polluted by horrible movies and people just wanting to get their face on the internet.

  2. There are solid reasons for classifying the video sharing site as a social network, and these relate back to your SEO plan. First, though, let's look at the more confusing aspects: YouTube as a search engine, and YouTube as a tool. YouTube first gained popularity with businesses as a tool, because it enabled easy posting of video.

  3. YouTube definitely was used to promote talent though it still does to some extent. It is true that there are many videos now of people just doing something stupid just to get attention nowadays and they will post it on YouTube just to try and become famous
