YouTube

YouTube has become an internet phenomenon attracting millions of people worldwide. YouTube is probably one of the most popular websites used today, due to its usefulness and seemingly endless capabilities. It can be used as an educational tool-where we can watch tutorials on a topic we are aiming to become more knowledgeable about, or it can be used for marketing purposes- where large corporations can pay well-known YouTubers to review products and give their input on them to reach a wider demographic, and it can even be used to become famous if you have a growing fan base. You can literally do almost anything on YouTube! I personally don’t know what I would do if YouTube didn’t exist today. It’s so hard for me to even picture or envision what my life was like prior to the creation of this amazing website. I can’t even remember where I used to watch videos before YouTube even existed. What I absolutely love about it is that the possibilities are endless! There are videos about anything and everything you can even imagine. Another great thing about it is that the site does not only cater to people of our younger generation, but it has content that can appeal to an older and more mature audience as well.

However, although YouTube has many positive aspects to its site, like most positive things in life, there are negative aspects to the site as well. It isn’t necessarily the site that promotes negativity, but sometimes users over step the parameters within the website that can portray Youtube as a whole in a negative light. For instance, very often some Youtubers will post violent videos of people fighting with one another. And YouTube has received quite a bit of backlash for allowing these videos to be posted onto the site. Moreover, I do not feel YouTube is to blame for any of this. Millions of videos are posted on a day to day basis, and I do not feel as though YouTube should be held responsible for having to go through every video to make sure it is appropriate prior to being posted. I feel as though the people posting it should have some sort of repercussions if they are in any way shape or form involved with fights that take place, and the people fighting should have to suffer consequences for their actions, but I do not feel as though YouTube should take accountability for any of this. Also, I feel as though regardless of how negative a video maybe whether there is a lot of cursing, or people doing the most heinous things, as bad as it sounds I feel like this is essentially the beauty of YouTube. Just being able to post a video about almost anything and see some of the reactions or comments it gets from the people watching it.
