Why memes are trending

I am sure if you recently went on the internet you probably have seen a meme on a social media site or on Google. Memes are a picture that may or may not have a caption and it is usually relevant to things that happen in peoples lives or globally and that people can share. Another purpose is to poke fun or just for a release of tension. Some memes are very witty and well done, were others lack imagination and may just be very insulting. Either way they are now a trend and the reason is because it is a way to relax. A quick way just to have some time to yourself and read (not exactly like a book, but close enough). Anyone can make a meme, usually there is a format a certain kind, like the famous "Overly attached girlfriend", people use relevant things their girlfriends have told them that make her seem like an overly attached girlfriend and post it. Most people like this because it may remind them of a time in their life it happened. Another way to see it is, if the person has never experienced something like this, they know what to watch out for in an "overly attached girlfriend" which society draws (in this case captions) in a meme. This is an amazing picture of a tomb in Iran in which they found two people kissing before dying. The people on the internet have altered it to include a picture of the woman deemed the "overly attached girlfriend". This somewhat wrecks such a nice picture. It all depends on the persons humor. Another case of wrecking a meme is when a teen on the news was dressed as a zombie, the picture was altered to make it look very... well different. It sent out a different message. The "author" thought it might appeal to some to they put it up and sure enough it was found funny.

Yet some are actually good, some do tend to the social problem aspects of life. I personally have seen one on bullying and rape, people trying to find the good in a bad situation by putting the message out there. Here is a pic of a young boy on Facebook who really doesn't act like a little boy should. Typical, trying to act older with a expensive smart phone taking the same kind of pic in the mirror. He then goes to trash a guy who is trying to troll him with very vulgar language. Below is a picture of a character from family guy who is pointing a gun and above is captioned "I'm out". Many people hate seeing such a site of a young boy acting bad and I feel like this puts a negative light on the situation in order to show people and kids that it isn't cool to act like that. In this way, the meme does hinder the boys reputation and is vulnerable, but it makes an example of him so that society backs off wanting to be like that.

In my opinion memes are awesome, the only downside is it makes people like "bad luck brain" and others susceptible to be bullied. Another thing is it is very addictive, I find myself refreshing and checking 9gag all the time looking for new content and new ideas for memes I could possibly make.
