YouTube

I believe that YouTube is one of the most useful websites on the internet. It allows people to communicate in a more personal manner than simple text or pictures. This is why it can be a huge advantage to politicians and other members of society trying to get a point across. This can be either positive or negative but YouTubes guidelines and rules are fairly strict, so videos offending the public will be removed.

YouTube is my go to website when im looking for music or movie trailers. This website allows artists to advertise and spread their music to a wider audience as the recommended section at the side of each video provides a wider range of videos that may interest the viewer. The only problem with YouTube and music is that it makes it very easy to illegally download music using video to mp3 converters.

YouTube often has how-to tutorials and other useful instructional videos which help a lot of the general public.

Many videos slip through the guidelines and rules of using YouTube and can be very disturbing. A video such as the one uploaded by the young girl from Vancouver who committed suicide should not be allowed on YouTube for as long as it was. This is my opinion but I believe that it can upset too many people from personal experience.

I believe that YouTube is more beneficial to society than not because of the strict guidelines and rules and is one of the most useful websites on the internet.

  1. Although youtube does have policies in place, like you said there seems to be far to many videos that do slip through the system and provide some major shock value to the public. On the other hand, it forces viewers to see what is actually going on in the world, such as, the bullying videos that have been made where the victim is telling there story. Horrible to watch and heart wrenching but they do force us to address serious issues that are going on in our world.

  2. It is a very tricky spot when trying to decide where to draw the line on what should be on and what shouldn't. No matter what you do, one side will be upset. I do feel that a lot of the time we are too protected from the ugly parts of the world, like the suicide video or bullying, we can learn a lot from them. Sometimes society needs to take its dues, We all need to have honesty in the news and learn from our mistakes as a whole.
